Jefferson County Public Library Says "Be Our Valentine"
JCPL seeks to round up outstanding Library fines and promote patron support
(LAKEWOOD, Colo. - February 1, 2010) With Valentine's Day fast approaching, Jefferson County Public Library (JCPL) and the Jefferson County Library Foundation are co-hosting a new "I Love My Library" campaign. This month-long celebration will allow citizens of Jefferson County to visibly demonstrate their support of public libraries.
"In 2010, libraries are being challenged to do more with less," said Marcellus Turner, JCPL Executive Director. "Despite the fact that the economic downturn has reduced our operating budget, we're committed to maintaining the quality of the programs and services we provide to our patrons. Consequently, we're inviting patrons to demonstrate their support of JCPL and the Jefferson County Library Foundation throughout the month of February."
JCPL has outlined five key ways patrons can support their local library:
-
Pay outstanding Library fines. People don't realize how Library fines add up. Every penny we recover can be put to good use to implement new programs and services and expand our collection.
- Write a "love letter" to JCPL. As part of the campaign, JCPL is sponsoring a "Why I Love My Library" Comment Contest in all of its 10 library locations. Patrons and library visitors are invited to complete a brief "love letter" to JCPL at any local Library or online at www.jeffcolibrary.org. These comment cards will be reviewed by a panel of judges, and authors of the top five "love letters" will receive a $25 Visa gift card.
- Sign up for JCPL's email list to receive updates on future Library programs and events. You can sign up in any of our Libraries, or online at www.jeffcolibrary.org.
- Donate to the JCPL Foundation. The Jefferson County Library Foundation is a nonprofit, charitable organization with tax-exempt status under Section 501 (C) (3) of the IRS Code. The Foundation serves as a private partner to JCPL, raising money to support Library programs and services. Find out more at www.jeffcolibraryfoundation.org.
- Become a Friend of the Library. Sponsored by the Jefferson County Library Foundation, the Friends of JCPL is a county-wide organization of volunteers dedicated to enhancing the programs and resources of our libraries. Find out more at www.friendsofjcpl.org.
