Value to Your Community

JCPL provides invaluable services to Jefferson County. In 2010, JCPL continued to set new usage records, including:

  • 7,494,561 million checkouts, up 5.8 percent year over year;
  • 2,960,459 million patron visits, up 2.7 percent;
  • 4.8 million visits to our Website, up 24 percent; and
  • more than 375,000 hours of Public Computer use - that's more than 106 hours a day!
In 2010, more than 260,000 residents had library cards. In addition, we offered more than 6,700 free classes and programs to more than 137,000 participants.

But numbers don't tell the whole story. JCPL is more than a collection of statistics; we're a sophisticated, integrated Library system with 10 libraries stretching from Arvada to Littleton and from Edgewater to Evergreen. We offer a vast array of materials, including books, periodicals, CDs, DVDs, audio books and ebooks, as well as a wide variety of classes, ranging from early literacy education for babies and toddlers, to tax preparation assistance for Seniors. We also have meeting rooms available for use by community groups.

We also have active outreach programs targeting special populations, including:

  • A Bookmobile that visits senior facilities and the homebound;
  • A Traveling Children's Library that delivers early literacy education to children in Head Start and other pre-school programs;
  • An eTrain mobile Computer Training Lab that is fully equipped with computers, software and access to online databases to assist with computer training and job search skills and activities; and
  • An Online Library which was accessed more than 4.8 million times last year.
We partner with Jefferson County to encourage maximum self-sufficiency for all our citizens. Our classes and resources support success in:

  • Early literacy and school readiness;
  • Ongoing academic achievement;
  • Technology access and training;
  • Economic advancement;
  • Community building and civic engagement; and
  • Lifelong learning.
In both 2010 and 2011, JCPL received national recognition for innovation and excellence from Library Journal and Gale in their Library of the Year Award Competition.

We offer Jefferson County residents the support they need to become better readers, better learners, better workers and better citizens. And we offer it freely to everyone - without regard to age, income level, political affiliation or any other demographic.
